She was initially inspired by shadows cast on grass. After a few weeks she devised a process that didn't render the chosen object on the canvas as an unflat image. The subject instead transforms into a re-creation of itself, where the surface becomes the carrier of it's own painterly interpretation, especially when the subject is alive or perishable for example, like humans or fruit. Alexa Meade's distinctive style of painting that is extremely ephemeral its nature, can be seen. The only piece from her work that is preserved is her photograph. Trompe-l'oeil art is created by combining the two techniques of photographing and painting. It creates two-dimensional flattened picture. Meade often blends her painted characters in the 3D world surrounding the figures. They interact within the world she has created for herself. This is a way of breaking down the barriers between photography, painting performance and installation.
